Faculty Interview: David Bennett

April 20, 2022 by Lin Johnson Leave a Comment

David Bennett is managing editor of HomeLife magazine and content manager of Open Windows devotional, both publications of Lifeway Christian Resources.

How can someone get the most out of writers conferences?

Be a sponge, and absorb everything. Approach the conference with a teachable spirit, no matter how much you know.

What’s your best advice for writers?

Never miss a deadline. In fact, consider meeting your deadline missing your deadline. Submit your work at least one day early.

Please give us a snapshot of your class “How to Become a Writer Editors Love.”

In addition to learning the professional expectations of your editor—including do’s, don’ts, and common mistakes—remember your editor is a person. Listen for likes, dislikes, and even faux pas. Everything is always about relationships.
