Paul & Timothy Mentor Program
This program pairs conference alumni and first-timers to help new conferees feel welcome and more comfortable in the first couple of days and give alumni opportunities to mentor and share their wisdom. Even if you have attended only one conference, you have valuable experience to offer.
How it works: “Pauls” and “Timothys” will be assigned before the conference, so you can make initial contact before arriving. Once the conference begins, the two of you will eat lunch together the first day and stay in touch throughout the first couple of days. “Pauls” will help “Timothys” with questions about classes, appointments, critique groups, etc. Both sets will benefit from the personal connections.
How to get involved: After you register for the conference, contact Letitia Suk at Letitia.Suk@gmail.com by June 8 to let her know you want to be involved. State whether you are a “Paul” (alumnus) or a “Timothy” (first-timer) and whether you are a man or woman (some names are not obvious). Letitia will match you and be available during the conference for any additional assistance.
Local Help Wanted
If you live in the Chicago area, the following opportunities for helping with the conference and possibly earning free conference days are available.
Email your information to Lin Johnson, lin@writetopublish.com. Put “WTP help” in the subject line. Tell what you are volunteering for, all the information requested, and your phone number.
Set Up at Wheaton College
We need volunteers to help set up freebies, set up the bookstore, and put together registration packets in Coray Alumni Gym in the Todd Beamer Student Center Monday 1:00-4:00 p.m. and/or Tuesday 9:30 a.m.-noon. You will receive free books for helping.
Indicate which day(s) you can help.
Airport Transportation for Faculty and Staff
We need people to make airport runs to pick up or take back faculty and staff members. This is both a volunteer and work-scholarship opportunity. If you volunteer, you will receive free books or CDs, as well as MP3s for any conference sessions you miss. Or you may earn one free day for every two or three airport runs, depending on the schedule; you will also receive free MP3s for any conference sessions you miss.
Airports: O’Hare and Midway. Pickup days: Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday. Return days: Friday and Saturday.
Include the following information: airport; day(s); your cell-phone number; car make/model, color, license number; number of passengers, including luggage; and whether you’re volunteering or want a work scholarship.
